You Spin Me Right Round Baby !

Filed under: Knitting — sarahboirin @ 8:13 am

Recently on Ravelry and Instagram I have spotted people producing gorgeous hand spun yarn.  So I decided to give it a go and see if it was something that I could love.  I ordered a kit from HillTop Cloud that included a basic drop spindle and a batt with some pink and sparkle in it ~

And I was able to spin up this gorgeous yarn ~

Now of course I had to find something awesome to knit with it ! And it was a coincidence that a lady I do some test knitting for on Ravelry approached me with her new pattern and we just knew that it had to have the handspun in it. Susan Ashcroft’s pattern is called Linen Weave and it’s currently being tested but should be available soon to purchase. Susan has also set up a group of Ravelry called Stitchnerds where we discuss and knit up all her awesome designs.

Here is my finished shawl SugarPlum Heartache, which was also knit with Lioness Arts DK ~

So I didn’t stop there with the spinning ! I spun up some more fibre from HilltopCloud that included Wensleydale and Silk ~

All Things Nice

and knitted another shawl with it, also using Fresh From the Cauldron Worsted weight yarn ~

Mr Darcy

And I’m still spinning ! On my new gorgeous Walnut Drop Spindle from Sunset Turnings is some North Ronadsay roving. North Ronaldsay is a small, remote Scottish Island only 3 miles long where the sheep eat seaweed. This is also the island that my sister-in-law grew up on 🙂

I’m really enjoying my spinning and plan to do more over the Autumn/Winter to keep my hands warm !
